Existences clash, being - never

To exist means to be something, a thing, a feeling,a thought, an idea. All existence is particular. Only being is universal, in the sense that every being is compatible with every other being. Existences clash, being - never. Existence means becoming, change, birth and death and birth again, while in being there is silent peace.

Can the mind come to a halt?

Can the vast, running-river mind slow down, come to a halt? Not practising to halt it, but seeing what is there and ceasing to be swept up in it? If we human beings do not understand ourselves freely, profoundly, from moment to moment, there cannot be any intelligent, loving, and compassionate relationship among us. Division and sorrow will persist. Is this clear?

Let erroneous thinking perish

Q: If I follow this Way, and refrain from intellectual processes and conceptual thinking, shall I be certain of attaining the goal?

A: Such non-intellection is following the Way! Why this talk of attaining and non-attaining? The matter is thus--by thinking of something you create an entity and by thinking of nothing you create another. Let such erroneous thinking perish utterly, and then nothing will remain for you to go seeking.

You have always been That

Q: Could you say that awakening is a shift from not seeing who we have always been to recognizing that?

Suzanne Segal: Okay but that recognition doesn't change who you really are, ever.  You have always been That.  And yes there is a way that the Vastness Itself can perceive Itself so directly, without any fogging or shading or taking anything else to be who you are.  I guess you could call it a waking up, but what seems most important to convey is that this is who everyone is all the time, whether the direct awareness of it is there or not.

Indescribable, but eternally present

An awareness of the truth
of the universe

Should not be regarded
as an achievement.

To think in terms
of achieving it,

Is to place it outside
your own nature.

This is erroneous
and misleading.

Your nature,
and the infinite universe

Are none other than
one and the same:

Indescribable,
but eternally present.

Simply open yourself
to your own True nature.

The disease is simple

and the remedy equally simple. It is your mind only that makes you insecure and unhappy. Anticipation makes you insecure, memory - unhappy. Stop misusing your mind and all will be well with you. You need not set it right - it will set itself right, as soon as you give up all concern with the past and the future and live entirely in the now.

It is vital to realize

that understanding is all, that there is no question of altering, or
amending what is, and that therefore the
question of any method or technique for
"attaining" enlightenment is totally irrelevant.
